Judge Profile Carol Gray Note: Carol is not available for overseas assignments. Carol has been an active member of the NZCF since 1974 when she began to show one of Iris Kerridge’s beautiful seal Burmese neuters. One thing quickly lead to another and her first seal breeding girl arrived from Sydney and the kittens began. She had bred Siamese in the 60s so was very pleased to add an oriental ebony queen to the household. Unfortunately, soon after most of her cats were diagnosed with FeLV. After an enforced break she started breeding again and worked on the introduction of silver and tabby Burmese. Her love of Abyssinians saw her bring in New Zealand’s first Somali, but she did not breed. 25 years later saw her happily joining in with establishing Mandalay’s, especially cinnamons. Towards the end of the 1970s she completed her first Shorthair Judges’ course and became a senior judge. Ill-health however saw her resign. She currently works as a primary teacher and lives north-east of Wellsford with 5 cats, two dogs and a sculptor husband. They have 13 acres of beautiful bush and operate a small boutique boarding cattery.
